How much would you be willing to pay for the iPhone 3G?

The 3G iPhone is such a hot commodity right now that demand is sky high. Demand is *so* high, in fact, it was only a matter of time before it found its way onto eBay. As with most coveted eBay items, eager beavers are bidding in excess of $1,000 USD. That's at least $700 more than they need to pay for it! One bid actually ended on $2,325 - that's like seven and a half iPhones! The majority of the handsets are advertised as being unlocked, to work with any carrier. Buyers are also provided with a link that'll help them unlock their iPhones, if need be. It's life or death to some, and the high amount of eBay bidding going on proves just how badly people want it.

In contrast to our American friends, the UK owners seem to be holding on to their iPhones with a firm grip. There is absolutely no sign of an iPhone 3G for sale on the UK site at all.

As the iPhone is only available in 20 countries, it's more than likely a few of these bids are coming from countries where the phone won't be shipped until the end of the year. So in that respect, bidding highly is much more understandable, than say, someone who could just wait a month and pick it up then. At least if you wait, you could save some of those fifty dollar bills in the process.

When it launched on 11 July, and even before its launch, stockists were telling us they'd ran out in the US and the UK, causing many a tantrum and much disappointment. With demand set to continue, how far would you be willing to go, and more importantly how much would you be willing to pay for the most popular phone in phone history?
